Ante Bet Slots Explained: How Enhanced Bets Work
An Ante Bet sounds as though it ought to be one standard feature. It is not. In some slots, paying more for a spin increases the chance of reaching a bonus. In others, it changes the symbols, trigger conditions or even parts of the bonus itself. The useful question is simpler: are you still paying for a spin, or are you buying direct entry to the bonus?
Quick answerAn Ante Bet or Enhanced Bet is an optional higher-cost per-spin mode that changes trigger probability, symbol or reel conditions, starting-state conditions or other documented feature behaviour while the game still resolves a paid spin, rather than directly awarding entry to a bonus feature. Depending on the game, the extra stake can increase feature-entry probability, guarantee or add feature symbols, change trigger conditions, or alter documented rules inside a bonus that is later triggered.
What is an Ante Bet in slots?
An Ante Bet is an optional way of paying more for a spin in exchange for a documented change to how that spin, its trigger conditions or a related feature works. Slotathon uses Enhanced Bet as the broader mechanic name because developers use several labels for this kind of behaviour.
Pots of Power: Mummy’s Treasure uses the term Ante Bet directly. Its documented Ante Bet costs 1.5x the normal stake and doubles the chance of triggering the bonus. Folsom Prison calls its version Toast Bet: the extra 20% guarantees a Scatter on reel 2 while ordinary symbol payout values remain based on the base bet.
The core ideaYou are paying more for a modified spin. If the payment skips that spin and directly starts the bonus instead, Slotathon treats it as Feature Buy / Paid Bonus Access, not an Ante Bet.
How do Ante Bets and Enhanced Bets work?
The pattern is simple. The player enables an optional higher-cost mode, the game charges the enhanced stake, and the affected spin then plays with one or more documented changes to its conditions or to the feature it can trigger.
What changes is game-specific. Barbarossa Beyond The Edge uses Golden Bet to double the chance of hitting Free Spins. The Rave uses xBet to guarantee a Scatter on reel 2. King Frog Feast goes further: its Super Bet changes the odds of triggering Free Games and also changes several rules once those Free Games begin.
So the name “Ante Bet” tells you less than you might expect. The game’s own rules still decide what the extra stake actually changes.

How much does an Ante Bet cost?
There is no standard surcharge. The reviewed games use very different prices, and a bigger premium does not necessarily mean a more dramatic change to the spin.
Folsom Prison and The Rave both use an extra 20% for their enhanced modes. Pots of Power: Mummy’s Treasure charges 1.5x the standard stake for Ante Bet, while Barbarossa Beyond The Edge also uses a 1.5x Golden Bet. At the other end of the scale, Extra Chilli More Chilli prices Power Play at 5x stake.
HelioPOPolis also shows why surcharge figures need scoping: the captured build showed +25%, while a specialist secondary source reported +50%, so Slotathon treats the percentage as configuration/version-sensitive.
FeatureSpins can sit much further up the price scale. In the captured configurations Slotathon reviewed, Epic Ze Zeus priced Mighty FeatureSpins at 50x the current bet and Bullets and Bounty priced Bad Blood FeatureSpins at 60x. That is a good reminder that price alone cannot tell you whether something is an Enhanced Bet or a direct Feature Buy.
What can the extra stake change?
This is where the mechanic starts to branch out. The extra stake can change several different parts of the game, and some modes combine more than one of them.
Bonus or Free Spins trigger probability
Pots of Power: Mummy’s Treasure doubles the bonus chance with Ante Bet. Barbarossa Beyond The Edge says Golden Bet doubles the chance of hitting Free Spins, while Book of Hidden Tombs uses Chance x2 to slightly increase the wager and double the probability of triggering Free Spins.
Gates of Olympus provides a Great Britain example. In the reviewed 94.50% UK rules, Ante Bet increases the stake by 25% and increases the chance of triggering Free Spins naturally. Across the UK-certified configurations reviewed by Slotathon, the Ante Bet RTP is the same as the corresponding base-game RTP.
Guaranteed or added trigger symbols
Folsom Prison and The Rave both use an extra 20% mode that guarantees a Scatter on reel 2. Sneaky Slots takes a different route in Gopnik and Nip Tuck: Sneaky Boost and Super Sneaky Boost change the active trigger-symbol conditions that can lead to normal or Super bonus states.
Reel or starting conditions
Other enhanced-spin modes change what is guaranteed on the paid spin itself. In the captured Epic Ze Zeus configuration, Mighty FeatureSpins guarantee a Hand of Zeus symbol on each activated spin. In Bullets and Bounty, Bad Blood FeatureSpins guarantee at least two VS, Bounty VS or a combination of both.
Rules inside a triggered feature
Battle The Beast uses Super Bet to affect two stages of play. It increases the odds of triggering Free Games, then increases the odds of a duel during those Free Games.
King Frog Feast is more extensive. Its Super Bet increases Free Games trigger odds, changes the 3/4/5/6-Scatter awards to 12/15/20/40 Free Games, makes the King Frog Wild move two positions per Free Game spin instead of one, and increases how often Tadpoles upgrade into Frogs.
That is why Enhanced Bet cannot simply mean “pay more to trigger the bonus more often”. In some games, the higher-cost mode also changes what happens after the bonus has started.
So “pay more for a better chance at the bonus” is a useful shortcut for some games, but it is too narrow for the mechanic as a whole.
Ante Bet, xBet, Super Bet and other provider names
Developers do not use one shared name. The behaviour Slotathon groups under Enhanced Bet can appear as Ante Bet, xBet, Toast Bet, Super Bet, Golden Bet, Chance x2, Power Play, Sneaky Boost or FeatureSpins.
Names can be deceptive. Two games can use different labels for very similar behaviour, while one branded menu can contain options that actually work in different ways.
Ante Bet vs Feature Buy / Bonus Buy
The simplest distinction is what happens after you pay.
With an Ante Bet or Enhanced Bet, the player pays more for a spin and that spin still has to play out under its modified conditions. The change might make a bonus more likely, guarantee a trigger symbol or alter another documented rule, but the bonus is not automatically awarded just because the enhanced spin was purchased.
Feature Buy / Paid Bonus Access does something different: the player pays a separate price to start or directly enter a bonus feature.
A game or provider menu can contain both types of option. What matters is what the individual option does, not the name of the menu it appears inside.
Some paid-spin menus sit close to the Feature Buy boundary. Hacksaw Gaming’s FeatureSpins show why. In reviewed configurations, the player can pay a much higher price for each spin while the game guarantees particular symbols or mechanics on that spin. The spin still takes place, so those options can fit Enhanced Bet even when the price is far above a conventional 20% or 50% surcharge.
X-iter is where things get less tidy, because one branded menu can mix different behaviours. Concrete Cowboys makes that visible: ELK’s first-party material says its 2.5x Bonus Hunt gives more than three times the chance to trigger the Bonus, while the supplied in-game menu shows a 250x Super Bonus option that guarantees entry to the Super Bonus game. The first can fit Enhanced Bet; the second is Feature Buy.
So the brand name is not the deciding factor. The useful test is whether the payment buys a modified spin or direct access to the bonus.
Does an Ante Bet change symbol payouts?
Folsom Prison and The Rave make the distinction especially clear. In both games, the player pays an extra 20% and receives a guaranteed Scatter on reel 2. The reviewed first-party material also states that ordinary symbol payout values are not increased by the extra stake.
That is useful evidence, but not a universal rule. Other Enhanced Bet modes change different parts of a game, so unchanged symbol values should only be stated where the game-specific evidence supports it.
Two different questionsSymbol payout values and overall RTP are not the same thing. Folsom Prison and The Rave keep the ordinary symbol values unchanged in the reviewed enhanced modes, while their certified overall RTP figures can still differ from the corresponding base configuration.
Does an Ante Bet change RTP or volatility?
There is no universal RTP rule here. The certified UK configurations for Folsom Prison and The Rave show small differences between the base mode and the enhanced mode, and even the direction of that difference changes between configurations.
| Game / configuration | Base RTP | Enhanced-mode RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Folsom Prison UK standard | 96.07% | Toast Bet 96.03% |
| Folsom Prison UK DX1 | 94.01% | Toast Bet 94.04% |
| The Rave UK standard | 96.09% | xBet 96.24% |
| The Rave UK DX1 | 94.29% | xBet 94.27% |
Those figures are configuration-specific. They do not support a rule that Ante Bets always raise RTP, always lower it or leave it unchanged.
The mechanic also does not establish a particular volatility change, hit-frequency change, overall winning likelihood or player benefit. Those claims need separate evidence for the individual game and configuration.
Are Ante Bets available in Great Britain?
Yes, in some UK-certified configurations. Availability still has to be checked game by game rather than assumed across Great Britain.
Slotathon’s jurisdiction register includes UK certification records reviewed by Slotathon include the mode for Folsom Prison and The Rave. Availability at individual operators or in other UK builds requires separate verification. The same records also do not establish Feature Buy availability, which is a separate configuration property.
Any live Great Britain implementation must also comply with the current rules applying to online slots, including the applicable total stake limit per game cycle and the Gambling Commission’s Remote Technical Standards.
Other games and configurations need separate verification. An international developer page, a generic build or the mere existence of the mechanic is not enough to establish availability in a particular UK version.
For that reason, this page does not treat HelioPOPolis, Barbarossa Beyond The Edge, Battle The Beast, King Frog Feast or Pots of Power: Mummy’s Treasure as Great Britain availability examples without game-specific GB evidence.

What the Ante Bet label does not tell you
The Ante Bet label leaves a lot unanswered. It does not tell you how much extra the spin costs, whether the game adds a symbol or changes probability another way, whether the bonus rules also change, or whether ordinary symbol payouts use the same values.
It also does not tell you the RTP direction, volatility, hit frequency, maximum win or overall likelihood of winning. Those properties need their own game- and configuration-specific evidence.
The presence of an Enhanced Bet also does not establish that Feature Buy is available. Nor does it establish that the mode is available in Great Britain. Both are separate configuration questions.
And the provider name is only a label, not a rulebook. xBet, Super Bet, Golden Bet, FeatureSpins and X-iter can describe materially different behaviour, so the individual option still has to be checked.
Ante Bet FAQ
What is an Ante Bet in slots?
An Ante Bet is an optional higher-cost spin mode that changes how the paid spin or a related feature behaves without simply buying direct entry to the bonus.
How do Ante Bets work in slots?
The player enables the mode, pays the higher stake for an affected spin, and the game applies its documented change. That might alter feature probability, trigger symbols, starting conditions or rules inside a later bonus.
How much extra does an Ante Bet cost?
There is no standard amount. Reviewed examples include an extra 20%, 1.5x the normal stake and 5x stake, while some high-cost FeatureSpins charge much more for each enhanced spin.
What can an Enhanced Bet change?
Depending on the game, it can change feature-entry probability, guarantee or add feature symbols, alter trigger conditions or starting states, or modify documented behaviour inside a feature that is later triggered.
Does an Ante Bet increase the chance of Free Spins?
It can. Barbarossa Beyond The Edge and Book of Hidden Tombs both document modes that double the chance or probability of triggering Free Spins. Other Enhanced Bets work differently.
Can an Ante Bet guarantee Scatter or feature symbols?
Yes, in games where the rules specify it. Folsom Prison and The Rave guarantee a Scatter on reel 2 in their reviewed enhanced modes, while some FeatureSpins guarantee other game-specific symbols.
Does an Ante Bet change symbol payouts?
Not necessarily. Folsom Prison and The Rave explicitly keep ordinary symbol payout values unchanged in the reviewed Toast Bet and xBet modes. Other games need to be checked individually.
Does an Ante Bet change RTP?
It can, depending on the game and configuration. Reviewed UK configurations for Folsom Prison and The Rave show small differences between base RTP and enhanced-mode RTP, with the direction varying by configuration.
Does an Ante Bet change volatility?
The existence of an Ante Bet does not establish that by itself. Any volatility difference needs separate evidence for the individual game and configuration.
Does an Ante Bet improve the chance of winning overall?
The mechanic does not establish that. Some modes increase the probability of reaching a particular feature, but that is not the same as proving a higher overall likelihood of winning or greater player value.
Is an Ante Bet the same as Feature Buy or Bonus Buy?
No. An Ante Bet pays more for a modified spin that still plays out. Feature Buy pays for direct entry to a bonus or feature. A game can contain both.
Are xBet, Super Bet and Golden Bet the same as Ante Bet?
They can belong to the same broad Enhanced Bet family, but the names do not guarantee identical behaviour. The important part is what the rules say the extra stake actually changes.
What are FeatureSpins in slots?
FeatureSpins is a label used for paid-spin options in reviewed Hacksaw Gaming games. Some examples charge more for each spin and guarantee particular symbols or conditions, which can fit Enhanced Bet. Other paid options may instead be direct Feature Buy, so the individual rules matter.
Can an Enhanced Bet change rules inside a bonus feature?
Yes, where the game documents it. Battle The Beast changes duel odds during Free Games, while King Frog Feast changes several Free Games rules when Super Bet is active.
Are Ante Bets available in Great Britain?
Yes, in some UK-certified configurations. Slotathon’s certification records for Folsom Prison and The Rave document configurations in which the Enhanced Bet mode is available. That does not establish that the mode is currently enabled at every UK operator or in every UK build. Other games and configurations need separate verification.

How we research slot mechanics
Slotathon starts with primary evidence such as game rules, in-game help, developer documentation and game sheets. Third-party reviews are used as secondary sources to compare against that evidence and help identify areas that may need further verification.
When sources disagree, we preserve the disagreement in the research instead of quietly choosing whichever version is easiest to publish.
