The highly anticipated Rugby World Cup 2015 kicked off last Friday in England, with a lot of adrenaline-filled matches lined up until the 31st of October. While elite rugby teams vie for their shot at the William Webb Ellis trophy in the next few weeks, punters are also getting their piece of the action at the betting lines of various bookmakers. An article published by the International Business Times on 18th September 2015, tells how twenty teams from across the world will compete against each other, throughout the six week duration, to dethrone New Zealand as the reigning world cup champions. According to the news source, this year’s Rugby World Cup is expected to be the ‘biggest competition in the sport’s 28-year professional history’, with record breaking ticket sales reaching above 2.25 million. The highly anticipated international sports event is said to expect a global audience of around four billion. The twenty elite rugby teams from across the world are pooled into four groups and will try to outplay one another to have a shot at the world cup title. Group A is comprised of Australia, England, Wales, Fiji, and Uruguay while Group B pools together the two-time champions South Africa with Samoa, Japan, Scotland, and the USA. Meanwhile, Group C brings together reigning world cup champions New Zealand with Argentina, Tonga, Georgia, and Namibia. Group D is composed of France, Ireland, Italy, Canada, and Romania. The news source reports that while Southern Hemisphere nations New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa are natural contenders for the title, it looks like Northern Hemisphere nations Ireland and England pose as major threats for the reigning champions. Rousey early favorite to beat Holm at UFC 195

Even though UFC 195 is still months away, punters have heavily favored the reigning UFC world bantamweight champion to emerge victorious in the match up against Holly Holm. Various news sources have reported on Friday that the opening odds heavily favour Ronda Rousey with the challenger a huge underdog at +825. To anyone who’s always updated with the action at The Octagon, the current odds at the betting lines come as no surprise because of Rousey’s undefeated streak.  In an article published by MMA Junkie dated 22nd August, “Rowdy” is currently 12-0 at the MMA and 6-0 at the UFC, beating her last three opponents and defending her title.  According to the article from FanSided published on 22nd August, Rousey dominated in The Octagon during the matches against Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano, and most recently, Bethe “The Pitbull” Correia in a combined 64 seconds.  In the news article published by FOX Sports on Friday, the reigning champion made the announcement about her next match on “Good Morning America”. Rousey successfully defended her title against the Brazilian Correia during UFC 190 last August 1 at Rio de Janeiro.  According to the article from ESPN dated 2nd August, Rowdy easily locked her sixth UFC title defense by knocking out the challenger within 34 seconds in the first round, making The Pitbull’s record 9-1.  Since the defeat on that Saturday night, Correia has been asking for a rematch against the champion.  In an article published by Youth Health dated 22nd August, it is rumored that a possible rematch between the two fighters will most likely take place next year. In another article published by MMA Junkie dated 22nd August, the challenger may be a lesser known name in [...]

Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ is betting favorite for VMA’s Video of the Year

With the official list of nominees released earlier this week, punters are racing to the betting lines to put their money behind their favorites in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. In an article published on MTV’s website, there are five nominations for 2015’s Video of the Year. The nominations include Beyoncé for ‘7-11’, Ed Sheeran’s hit single ‘Thinking Out Loud’, Taylor Swift’s star-studded ‘Bad Blood’ that features co-nominee Kendrick Lamar, the catchy ‘Uptown Funk’ from Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Alright’. The nominations were announced on Apple’s Beats 1 radio show last Monday. Though the VMA’s are still too far away, it seems that punters have already picked their favorites this early on. According to the betting odds from Betfair and Paddy Power, punters are putting their money behind Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar to snag a Moonman by the end of the night for Video of the Year. Betfair has placed the two music videos on the top spot with odds of 5/4. Queen B’s ‘7-11’ garners the third spot with Betfair with odds of 9/2, ‘Uptown Funk’ is in fourth place with 11/2, while ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is in last place. Meanwhile, Paddy Power’s betting lines tell a different story. In an article published by Bet Special yesterday, the bookmaker has placed Beyoncé’s ‘7-11’ in the last spot with odds of 12/1. ‘Alright’ has a lower odd of winning according to Paddy Power with 7/1, while the British pop singer’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is at third place with 11/4. Ronson is the runner up at 2/1 while Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ is the forerunner for the award with odds of 6/4. The announcement of this year’s nominees has caused a [...]

The digital entertainment company bwin.party has recently released its financial performance in the opening quarter of 2015, which reflected a revenue amounting to €155.3 million. This is a 6% year-on-year decrease compared to the €165.7 million posted in the same quarter last year. Bwin.party continues to struggle performance wise as observed in the opening quarter. The group’s performance has been impacted by unfavorable European football results and a continuous decline in the performances of its online casino and poker product areas. Despite this, the report highlighted that nationally regulated and taxed market represented 62% of the total revenue compared to last year’s 56%, while mobile/touch represented 30% the gross gaming revenue during the period compared to 17% in 2014. Formed in March 2011 from the merger of bwin Interactive Entertainment AG and PartyGaming Plc, bwin.party serves millions of players worldwide in multiple languages and broad range of currencies. However, unfavorable results impacted the gross win margin down to 8.7%, compared to last year’s 10.3% which is reflected on sports betting revenues amounting of €58 million. Yahoo looks to expand into daily fantasy sports

Yahoo has recently announced that it plans to expand and compete in the burgeoning daily fantasy sports betting scene in the United States. The digital media company aims to be the third biggest player in the field. Yahoo’s Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer announced the future product launch during the company’s first-quarter earnings call. Mayer adds that the digital media giant aims to release the new product by the third quarter of 2015. Founded back in 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo then named as Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web, Yahoo became one of the most popular Internet companies in the world. The company was incorporated the following year and was renamed Yahoo. Known worldwide for its search engine, the multinational Internet Corporation offers a wide range of related services such as email, news, finance, groups, advertising, online mapping and social media. Yahoo currently has a dedicated coverage for the fantasy sports market and was one of the digital media companies that offered fantasy sports products. In daily fantasy sports, participants play the role of team owners who can choose their own line up of real life athletes who participate in professional sports leagues. The better the statistics of the athlete in real life games, the better are the participant’s chances of winning real money prizes in daily match-ups against other participants. But unlike other online betting games, daily fantasy sports are considered 'skills games' and are legal in the United States. In the past few years, the daily fantasy sports sector continues to grow in popularity in the US. The market is currently dominated by FanDuel and DraftKings with last year’s revenues amounting to $57 million and $30 million [...]
